A Typical Day for George
I choose to write about Fridays because that day has the most variety to
write about. I am up at 6:30 am and listen to the traffic and weather to determine how much time I need to allow for the morning
commute and how to dress for the day. I check the calendar and my to-do list to see what business needs to be done. Over morning
tea I read my email. I have a number of local friends and pen pals from around the world I keep in touch with.
Work is production keying, electronic item selecting and scanning.
Since I am a senior I can break up the day answering electronic queries and doing occaisional administrative tasks. At
lunch I eat lightly and read a mixture of classic literature and modern novels. My usual day is 8 to 12 hours long but
on Fridays it is only 5.5 hours, I get off at 1:30.
I take the subway to the city where I visit a special exhibit at a museum
or a number of small galleries. I prefer representational art but seek out the abstract type if it has an interesting theme.
The pace of city life exhilirates, the architecture inspires and the sights and sounds of the city interest me. It is usually
the best two hours of my week.
Just after 4 pm I do errands like the bank, post office, dry cleaners etc.
Then go over to the mall where I like going to the book store. I have a large library at home and keep adding to
it. After shopping for gifts and household purchases at the other mall stores I do weekly grocery shopping.
About 8 pm I return home and put the shopping away. I do some household
chores like dishes, cleaning, trash, bill paying etc while listening to jazz and classical radio. About 9 pm I start on my
exercise. I do treadmill 45 minutes most every day at 80% of maximun heart rate. If I have the time and am ambitious
I lift some weights as well. While exercising I watch TV programs I have taped, a mixture of Sci Fi (Star Trek, Stargate),
technology (Modern Marvels, Nova) and travel (Globe Trekker, Rick Steves). During breaks in the workout routine I check my
business email and also search for other topics of interest for the day After exercise I read a few minutes more,
usually history or philosophy. About 10:30 I take a shower, do my pesonal pampering and go off to bed.
